Project group 04 - Artificial intelligence in optical communication technology

The objective of the group is the predicition of the gain behavior of optical amplifiers (Erbium Doped Fibre Amplifiers, short EDFA) for signals with unevenly distributed channel powers in saturating. In order to gain further insights into the phenomenon called spectral hole burning the following content will be included in this project group:

- Generation of training and test data using an EDFA simulation model that takes the inhomogeneous gain behavior into account
- Implementation and training of the model using Python (Pytorch and optuna)
- Investigations: Can the amount of training data be reduced by using simplified physical assumptions?
- Possibly: Repetition of the first two steps based on measurement data with automated measurement routines
