Prof. Dr.-Ing. Peter Krummrich


Mr. Peter Krummrich was born in Braunschweig in 1966. He studied electrical engineering at the Technical University of Braunschweig and the New Jersey Institute of Technology, specializing in high-frequency technology. The diploma thesis, completed in 1992, dealt with the construction of a high-resolution tunable laser source for generating short optical pulses. The topic of the doctorate, which was completed in 1995, was praseodymium-doped fiber amplifiers for the wavelength range around 1.3 µm. Also in 1995, Mr. Krummrich took up a position at Siemens AG in Munich. He worked there as a technical expert, later also as a project manager and as a department head, on tasks in pre-development, technical marketing, component development and system development. The technical topics initially included the investigation of distributed erbium-doped amplifiers in cooperation with an external partner. The subject area was later expanded to include technologies for robust optical networks, such as Raman amplification, efficient modulation methods, optical and electrical equalizers and polarization mode dispersion compensators. The investigation of the influence of interference effects on the transmission, such as noise caused by quantum effects or multipath interference, as well as linear and non-linear signal distortions, also played a major role. In 2007, Mr. Krummrich moved to the University of Dortmund, where he took over the management of the chair for high-frequency technology. Technically, he continues to deal with technologies for optical transmission systems. Topics of classic high-frequency technology have also been added, such as research into new concepts for chambers for measuring the electromagnetic compatibility of devices. In 1993, Mr. Krummrich received an award from the SEW Eurodrive Foundation for his diploma thesis. Because of his inventive work at Siemens, he was named ÖN inventor of the year in 1998. He received the ITG prize in 2004 for publications on Raman amplification.
